Red, White, and YOU: Rest Is Resistance This Memorial Day

As grills fire up and red, white, and blue floods our timelines, Memorial Day reminds us of the sacrifices made in service to this country. While we honor the military lives lost, let’s not forget another battlefield—the workplace, where many people of color, especially Black women, silently endure chronic stress, discrimination, and burnout just to keep their jobs and dignity.

This holiday, I invite you to make rest more than a weekend activity.

Let’s make it a declaration.Because your peace of mind should never be the price of your paycheck.

Rest Is a Radical Act

Too often, we feel guilty for taking time off. We overperform. We smile through microaggressions. We carry the unspoken burdens of being “the only one” in the room. But here's the truth:

Rest is not lazy. Rest is revolutionary.Rest is how we reclaim our power, our voice, and our health.

This Memorial Day, I’m raising a glass (of cucumber water, because hydration is self-care!) to everyone who is finally choosing themselves.

Whether you’re lying low at home or catching some sun, take this long weekend to check in with your mental health, your boundaries, and your goals.

Ask yourself:

👉 Am I surviving or actually thriving at work?

👉 Do I feel safe enough to speak up?

👉 What would change if I put my health first?
