Power Move™ #3: Vision
Career Burnout Has a Way of Shrinking Your Vision
"Not your dreams, but what has God shown you? Everything you do should get you closer to being who you are in that vision."
Career burnout doesn't just wear down your body.
It doesn't only affect your emotions.
It can quietly shrink your vision.
When you're coping with chronic workplace stress, fear, discrimination, or uncertainty, it's easy to become consumed with getting through today.
The next shift.
The next meeting.
The next paycheck.
The next crisis.
Over time, survival becomes the goal.
But God has never called us to live only for survival.
Vision Is Different Than Dreams
Many people are taught to follow their dreams.
Power Move™ #3 asks a different question.
What has God shown you?
Dreams often begin with our desires.
Vision begins with God's purpose.
Vision doesn't ignore today's reality.
It simply refuses to believe today's circumstances have the final word.
When I was navigating workplace discrimination, I couldn't always see how my story would end.
There were days filled with uncertainty, fear, and disappointment.
But God never lost sight of what He was building.
What I thought was the end of my career became the beginning of my calling.
Career Burnout Narrows Your Perspective
One of the dangers of career burnout is that it convinces us our current situation is permanent.
We stop asking,
"Who is God shaping me to become?"
Instead, we ask,
"How do I survive another week?"
Fear has a way of reducing our vision.
Faith expands it.
Throughout Scripture, God gave people vision before they experienced fulfillment.
Vision gave them hope while they waited.
Vision gave them direction when circumstances made no sense.
Vision reminded them that God's promises were greater than their present difficulties.
Every Decision Should Move You Toward the Vision
The paragraph in Operation Mental Health™ ends with a simple but profound statement:
"Everything you do should get you closer to being who you are in that vision."
That includes your employment decisions.
Your health decisions.
Your relationships.
Your boundaries.
Your responses to workplace conflict.
Career burnout often pressures employees to react.
Vision teaches us to respond with purpose.
Not every opportunity moves us toward the vision.
Not every paycheck moves us toward the vision.
Not every promotion moves us toward the vision.
Sometimes the most faithful decision is the one that keeps you aligned with what God has already shown you.

Career burnout has a way of convincing employees that today's circumstances define tomorrow's possibilities.
They do not.
God's vision is greater than your present situation.
Everything you do should move you closer to becoming the person God has called you to be.
That is Power Move™ #3: Vision.
