Employee Mental Health Education: The Question You Don't Ask May Cost You More Than the Answer

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."— Matthew 7:7 (KJV)

One question can change the course of your life.

One question can protect your employment.

One question can preserve your health.

One question can prevent a costly mistake.

Yet, one of the greatest consequences of workplace fear is silence.

Employees stop asking.

We Have Been Taught to Wait

Many Black career women and registered nurses never ask for what they want unless there's a union, an attorney, or someone else rallying around them.

We've been taught there's strength in numbers.

But many workplace battles—including job stress, burnout, fear, discrimination, and difficult employment decisions—are deeply personal.

Eventually, the crowd goes home.

The meeting ends.

The grievance is closed.

The attorney finishes the case.

The question remains:

Can you stand?

Your Greatest Workplace Battle

One of the greatest misunderstandings employees make is believing the workplace is the enemy.

It isn't.

Your employer makes decisions.

Your manager supervises performance.

Your organization operates according to policy.

But your greatest workplace battle isn't ultimately between you and your employer.

It's between you and your faith.

Your job site just happens to be the physical location where that battle is taking place.

Every difficult decision eventually asks the same question:

Whom will you trust?

Why Asking Matters

Fear keeps people quiet.

Education gives people language.

Language gives people confidence.

Confidence gives people the courage to ask.

Ask your employer.

Ask your healthcare provider.

Ask your attorney.

Ask your pastor.

Ask your mentor.

Most importantly...

Ask God.

Jesus didn't tell His followers to guess.

He invited them to ask.

"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."— Matthew 7:7 (KJV)

Asking isn't weakness.

It is wisdom.

It is humility.

It is stewardship.

Employee Mental Health Education Is Different

For too long, employees have been expected to make life-changing employment and healthcare decisions without first receiving the education needed to understand their options.

That is why I teach Employee Mental Health Education.

Not to make decisions for you.

But to equip you with the understanding to ask better questions.

Because better questions lead to better decisions.

Better decisions protect your health.

Your employment.

Your faith.

And your future.
