When job stress has you questioning your faith.

As a Black woman in America, there are not many places outside the workplace that will have you questioning, where is God? There you are, college-educated, a 6-figure earner, saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. You have done the IM possible. You aspire to climb the corporate ladder, but something has happened and now, you are stuck in the middle of hell. You want to be obedient to Him but risking your job is not a part of your career plans. Besides, these bills ain’t gone pay themselves. Plus, the job stress has you feeling like, you cannot be without your PPO plan. Job stress is the number one reason employees see their doctors and still, seventy-five percent of diseases come from unhealthy emotions. If you are seeing your doctor for job-related stress what are your health equity odds?

Here’s how I make it make sense…there’s a twenty-five percent health equity chance if you just quit your job and do not address ‘the something’ that has happened. Some career women are not dealing with systemic structures just toxic behavior. Those of you who are dealing with systemic structures may want to reconsider just quitting and confronting your situation.

Actually, do what you want to do. But here’s why…

Over my three decades of industry knowledge, two decades of nursing experience and ten years of retaliation wisdom, I have come to learn that job stress is a calling from God. Maybe it’s time to show your love and trust in Him and be moved from feelings of disempowerment and hurt to become a boldly empowered employee, even an industry leader.

I am not one of those health equity leaders that believe the lie that in order to get to equity we must first talk about inequity. Do you have time to waste? You know the facts, stats and challenges.

You want solutions. Your health is literally hanging in a balance.

Here’s what you can do. I am about to share the four techniques that I used to eliminate job stress, now backed by the US Surgeon General for Mental Health and Well-Being.

  1. Prioritize workplace physical and psychological safety

  2. Enable adequate rest

  3. Normalize and support mental health

  4. Operationalize DEIA* norms, policies, and programs
